HUNTINGTON BEACH STATE PARK

In 1930 the philanthropist Archer Huntington and his wife, sculptress Anna Hyatt Huntington, purchased three plantations, including this extensive beachfront area where they made their winter home. Huntington Beach State Park now welcomes the public year round.

A fresh water lagoon, nature trail, and pristine beach allow observation of the coast's diverse natural environment. A boardwalk winding far into the salt marsh enables visitors to watch tall wading birds feed, coastal raptors seek their prey and see alligators basking in the sun.

The park, located on Hwy 17 near Murrells Inlet, allows ocean swimming, crabbing and surf fishing and offers facilities for camping and picnicking. Park hours are 6a.m.-9p.m.. Admission. Call 843 - 237 - 4440
